THE SYNOPSIS
• Shakthi is based on the 60's classic, ‘Wait Until Dark’ starring Audrey Hepburn and Allan Arkin. It is a poignant tale of how a blind woman avenges three gangsters who use her house as an asylum to cover up a murder that they commit.
THE HISTORY
• The play was directed in 1995 by Mr.Y.Gee.Mahendra, who played the lead role along with his daughter Madhuvanthi Arun • To mark the drama troupe United Amateur Artists (UAA’s) 60th year celebration, Madhuvanthi will be producing, directing and acting in this production, which will be supported by a young cast and Mr.Y.Gee.Mahendra would be playing a guest role.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
• Brilliant use of the revolving stage – a different concept in Tamizh theatre. • Shakthi establishes the fact that the torch of Tamil theatre would be passed on to the next generation, who shall continue to spread the rich heritage of Indian art across the world. • Madhuvanthi considers Shakthi as a tribute to her father, Mr.Y.Gee.Mahendra and grandfather, Mr.Y.G.Parthasarathy, who started this troupe in 1952.
